05 THE LORD'S DAY          Key Letters:  LD

1LD Rev. 1:10 There is a day which is called the Lord's Day.
This text does not specify which day is the Lord's Day.
2LD Isa. 58:13

Which Day is the Lord's day? The Sabbath.

3LD Gen. 2:1-3

What is the Sabbath? God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. He made the seventh day holy. He did something to it, that he did not do to the other six days.

4LD Exo.
20:8-11

Since God worked six days and rested on the Sabbath, he wants his people to observe the Sabbath too. "The Seventh Day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God." Since Jesus said He is Lord of the Sabbath (Matt. 12:8), and since Jesus is the Creator, He:
1. Made the World in six days.
2. Rested (Heb. Sabbath-ed) on the Seventh Day.
3. Blessed the Seventh day.

5LD Mark 2:27

--The Sabbath was made for man. There was something inside of God that desired this pattern of 6 days of work and the seventh day for rest. Man was created in the image of God with a need for the same Sabbath Cycle.
--Not for the Jews only but for Man. There were no Jews on the earth at creation when the Sabbath was made.

6LD Luke 23:54-24:3

Which day is the Seventh day? Jesus was crucified on Friday, Rested on Sabbath and was resurrected on Sunday. Since The Sabbath was observed after the crucifixion it could not have been abolished the previous day.

7LD Luke 4:16

Jesus, our example, kept the Sabbath day.

8LD Matt. 24:20

Jesus, looking ahead to the destruction of Jerusalem which was in 70 AD, expected Christians to be observing the Sabbath at that time, 40 yr. after the cross.

9LD Matt.
12:9-12

Matthew, writing some 30 years after the cross taught the Church how to observe the Sabbath. There is no hint of concerning which day to observe. The only controversy is how to observe it.

10LD Eze. 20:12,20

The Sabbath is not only a sign of Creation (Exo 20:11) but also a sign of redemption.

11LD Isa. 66:22,23

The Sabbath will be observed in the new earth.
